Egyszerre tanult a budapesti b\u00f6lcs\u00e9szkaron \u00e9s a Zeneakad\u00e9mia zeneszerz\u00e9s szak\u00e1n. 1905-ben kezdte el a n\u00e9pdalgy\u0171jt\u00e9st, bar\u00e1ts\u00e1got k\u00f6t\u00f6tt Bart\u00f3k B\u00e9l\u00e1val, k\u00f6z\u00f6s kiadv\u00e1nyuk\u00a0<em>Magyar n\u00e9pdalok<\/em>\u00a0c\u00edmmel jelent meg. 1906-ban mutatt\u00e1k be els\u0151 zenekari darabj\u00e1t &#8222;Ny\u00e1ri este&#8221; c\u00edmmel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1907-ben nevezt\u00e9k ki a Zeneakad\u00e9mia tan\u00e1r\u00e1v\u00e1, majd az \u0151szi r\u00f3zs\u00e1s forradalom idej\u00e9n \u0151 lett az aligazgat\u00f3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8222;H\u00e1rom \u00e9vvel k\u00e9s\u0151bb vil\u00e1gsikert aratott\u00a0<em>H\u00e1ry J\u00e1nos<\/em>\u00a0c\u00edm\u0171 dalj\u00e1t\u00e9ka, az 1932-ben bemutatott, n\u00e9pdalokra \u00e9p\u00fcl\u0151\u00a0<em>Sz\u00e9kelyfon\u00f3<\/em>t a mil\u00e1n\u00f3i Scal\u00e1ban is sz\u00ednre vitt\u00e9k.
