A debreceni koll\u00e9giumban v\u00e9gezte az als\u00f3bb oszt\u00e1lyokat, 1782-ben kimaradt az iskol\u00e1b\u00f3l \u00e9s be\u00e1llt k\u00f6zhusz\u00e1rnak. Gal\u00edci\u00e1ban \u00e9s Lengyelorsz\u00e1gban katon\u00e1skodott, 1788-ban r\u00e9szt vett a t\u00f6r\u00f6k\u00f6k ellen vezetett moldvai hadj\u00e1ratban, ahol megsebes\u00fclt. 1791-t\u0151l m\u00e1sf\u00e9l \u00e9vet Gal\u00edci\u00e1ban t\u00f6lt\u00f6tt ezred\u00e9vel, majd Franciaorsz\u00e1gba vez\u00e9nyelt\u00e9k. Apja 1796-ban meghalt, ekkor lemondott rangj\u00e1r\u00f3l \u00e9s hazak\u00f6lt\u00f6z\u00f6tt Debrecenbe, ahol n\u00e9h\u00e1ny \u00e9vig visszavonultan \u00e9lt. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Komoly bar\u00e1ts\u00e1g f\u0171zte Csokonai Vit\u00e9z Mih\u00e1lyhoz \u00e9s F\u00f6ldi J\u00e1noshoz, 1804-ben k\u00e9sz\u00fclt el f\u0151 m\u0171ve, hexameteres elbesz\u00e9l\u0151 k\u00f6ltem\u00e9nye, a L\u00fadas Matyi.
